TUC Gaza Appeal

In contrast to union activists with a perculiar obsession, the TUC is running a humanitarian campaign to help civilians in Gaza who are suffering in the current conflict between Israel and Hamas. Regardless of your views of the conflict, in particular the rights and wrongs of the various sides, it is a fact that Palestinian civilians are suffering. If you wish to donate, please click here.

We may not all be Hamas now, but we are all human.

All proceeds will be forwarded through the Palestine General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) to support emergency humanitarian relief operations carried out by them in Gaza. All trade union relief operations are co-ordinated through Red Crescent in Jordan, Egypt and Gaza and focused on the identified needs of the people affected by the events. The first ITF-PGFTU humanitarian flight is due to leave for Gaza on 08 Jan 2009. The TUC supports an immediate ceasefire by both sides, and the pursuit of a political solution to the problems of the Middle East based on two states.

With thanks to DSTFW.

Glad to see the Left’s Jew obsession absent here.

I remember well the TUC’s fund drive to help those in the Sudan, Kurds in Turkey and … oh wait… come to think of it.. these never happened.

Could it be because they lacked the majic ingreedient…. JEWS!

The TUC have helped unionists in Iraq and have complained about Iran’s treatment of trade unionists.

So stop being a fuckwit.

TT

The TUC is actually extremely supportive of the Kurds (and Iraqis)

If you want an alternative - though the TUC appeal looks fine to me - “Children of Peace”

http://www.childrenofpeace.org.uk/charity-info.html

has appealed for donations to help those in Gaza.

“As a non-partisan charity, we are respected by all sides and have been one of the few organisations to bring aid into the Gaza refugee camps. That is why we call on all our Israeli & Palestinian friends to reject violence and to protect the children – the innocent victims of the conflict who are suffering beyond endurance. Children are damaged by conflict – both mentally & physically and the wounds can last a lifetime.”

Good to see Jew obsession on both sides. There are reasons to criticize Israel’s actions other than that she’s a Jewish majority state. As Neil said, that was a particularly stupid thing to say when, above the Gaza appeal on the homepage, is one for Farzad Kamangar (which then links to Iraqi campaigns), and when a brief use of its search function turns up numerous hits on both Sudan generally, and Darfur specifically.

The PGFTU is apparently a Fatah controlled organisation. Not sure what presence if any, they have in Gaza. Particularly as their HQ building was destroyed by the Israeli Air Force last year.

John, if they are a Fat’h controlled organization, I think we can assume that building had very few representatives present.

Anyone thinking of putting money into Hammas coffers should seriouly watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1M4eH9Kk7I
Hammas is fundied by arab nations, the UN and western countries they have no other sources of funds.
Their sole purpose is to use the 1.5million palestinians who they control to destroy Israel. This video shows how they treat their own people and how they would have no qualms in sacrificing them including women and children for that cause.
those westerners who support hammas are supporting their slaughter and enslavement of Palestinians.

“Good to see Jew obsession on both sides.”

Not that I’m Jew obsessed, but I personally find Jew obsession among Jews to be less harmful than Jew obsession among non-Jews, But then again, I’m a Jew and you are not a Jew.

david of currumbin,

You are an arse. This is not a funding drive for Hamas, it is an act of solidarity with the people of Gaza which you could even support if you were in favour of continued military action by Israel.

so neil -please detail your plans for distribution of the funds

Neil D
  8 January 2009, 10:55 pm

I have no plans for distribution of any funds david.

If you read the post, it is a TUC appeal. I put it to you that the TUC, with their support for a two-state solution, are unlikely to be launching a very public campaign to illegally supply a terrorist organisation with funds. They are distributing aid through the Red Crescent.

Christ, if Harry’s Place has suddenly located a conscience where the Palestinians are concerned, it literally must be hell on earth over there right now. It’s quite scary to hear you say this (even if it is fake concern and you are just afraid of looking more heartless than usual). And if it is genuine: what a shame that you can’t display your human side more often.

Perhaps some of the money can be used by the orphans created by the bombings you so blithely cheer on.

Oh look, the Red Cross has turned all anti-semitic

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/08/gaza-israel-red-cross-children

“Four exhausted children have been discovered cowering in a house next to the bodies of their mothers by staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross, which today accused the Israeli military of “unacceptable” delays in allowing medics safe access to injured Gazans.

The Red Cross workers found the small children, who were so weak they could not stand, sheltering next to the bodies of their mothers in a house in Zeitoun, southeast of Gaza City. Another man was found alive, but again too weak to stand. At least 12 bodies were lying on mattresses.”

Fuck off.

what a shame that you can’t display your human side more often.

Because being concerned about the indiscriminate firing of missiles by a terrorist organisation at civilians isn’t sign of a human side? Or do you not consider Jews human?

Oh, and don’t forget to fuck off.

“being concerned about the indiscriminate firing of missiles by a terrorist organisation at civilians isn’t sign of a human side? ”

Calling Israel a terrorist organisation may be accurate, however it does seem out of Character Neil.

Neil D

Oh, ho ho ho! I see what you have done there. You’ve deliberately confused indiscriminate firing at civilians with the targeted strikes against legitimate military targets in order to look clever.

The people of palestine get a crack at my wages before I do. My government takes it from me, under threat of imprisonment, and gives it to them.

Wonder what they are spending it on…..

Mike

They are surprisingly well educated considering they effectively live in the third world. They must spend it on education.

‘John, if they are a Fat’h controlled organization, I think we can assume that building had very few representatives present’.

It’s inhabitants were probably thrown off the roof in June 2007.

“Or do you not consider Jews human?”

That really don’t wash any more mate you’ve worn it out - completely. Jews of the world want nothing to do with the terrorist state of Israel and the ocean of blood that it has been swimming in for 60 years. You have no right to associate Jewish people - who know ALL about persecution - with those mass-murdering bastards who are responsible for the worst subjugation of a people in recent history.

‘You have no right to associate Jewish people - who know ALL about persecution - with those mass-murdering bastards who are responsible for the worst subjugation of a people in recent history.’

Erm, at the risk of whataboutery, have you considered the difference between the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza and the following?:

(1) Year Zero in Cambodia.
(2) The ‘Great Leap Forward’ and the Cultural Revolution in China.
(3) The gulags in North Korea.
(4) Al-Anfal and Saddam’s genocide against the Kurds.
(5) Ethnic cleansing in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo (committed mainly by the Milosevic regime and its proxies).
(6) Russian military actions in Chechnya and elsewhere in the Caucasus (notably Ingushetia).
(7) Idi Amin and Milton Obote’s reigns of terror in Uganda.
(8) The Rwandan genocide.
(9) The various atrocities committed by all parties involved in the Zaire/DRC conflict since 1997.
(10) Mugabe’s misrule in Zimbabwe (notably the Matabeleland massacres of 1983 and his misgovernment since 2000).
(11) Darfur.
(12) The various atrocities committed by the Taliban and its enemies in Afghanistan from 1992-2001.
(13) Indonesia’s occupation of East Timor from 1975-1999.
(14) The Burmese regime’s war against its own people from 1988 onwards.
(15) Kashmir.
(16) The suppression of the Hama rising by Assad in 1982.
(17) The killing of thousands of political opponents by Khomeini’s theocracy in Iran, including the mass murder of between 8-30,000 in 1988 alone.
(18) The devastation of Afghanistan by the Soviet military between 1979 and 1989 (which killed up to 1 million Afghans).

A certain sense of proportion is called for, friend. But seeing as none of these cases I’ve mentioned can be blamed on Israel, you don’t give a fuck about them. Take your crocodile tears elsewhere.
