BNP pickets Manchester Cathedral

BNP activists are putting their new ‘Christian’ strategy into action by harassing church goers:

THE DEAN of Manchester Cathedral has condemned the British National Party after the extremists picketed a service at Manchester Cathedral on Sunday.

Members of the far right wing group – whose followers have been branded ‘Nazi thugs’ by political leaders – gathered outside the cathedral on Sunday with loudhailers, playing tunes like ‘Rule Britannia’ and handing out leaflets that said: ‘Judas Archbishops Betray Ordinary People’, in response to Church of England warnings that the party is divisive in the run-up to the European Parliament elections.

Shocked worshippers were met by the protesters as they filed out of the church, forcing the Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Revd Rogers Govender, to come out and confront them.

[...]

Speaking afterwards Dean Govender, said; “Manchester Cathedral is a place of tolerance with an inclusive Christian community.

“It seems odd that the BNP, feeling threatened by these values, decided to picket an act of Christian worship with loudspeakers and offensive leaflets.

It doesn’t seem odd to me. This kind of behaviour is exactly what I’d expect from people who seem to think that Christianity is a ‘white’ religion and therefore can’t understand why most people are not in the least bit offended by a church that has black members such as Rogers Govender.

Yes, the BNP adherents behave like silly ninnies at times, don’t they? So very Tatchell, my dear! Or like those very embarrassing early Quakers!

Is the race issue the important issue or should Anglican churchgoers and other citizens – whatever their skin colour – consider just how disgusting and capitulationist the leadership of the Church of England has become?

The Taffy of Cantuar has had nothing at all to say about the suffering experienced by Christians in the Middle East, Turkey included, but has found the insufferable effrontery to suggest that the acceptance of some – just a few, mind you – of the least disgusting elements of Sharia might usefully be incorporated into British law.

Challenged on this, he replied ” … well, I’m no expert.”

Later, very smugly, he said that his initial utterance had been welcomed by “some very senior people,” leaving us to guess whether he meant Cameronians or the Bigears of Highgrove.

On the issue of the male clergy being gay, he said ” … actually, I’m trying to keep my head down.”

And this poltroon regales us with his deep studies into the works of a very dead Russian novelist. [Studied in exhaustive depth umpteen times already.]

Christians like him ought to be thrown to the Whipsnade lions.

I think they’ve shot themselves in the foot there. That’s the end of their ‘Christian’ strategy. Oddly, it is the bishops of colour, like Bishop Nazir Ali and John Sentanyu who are the most outspoken for Christian rights.

Exactly. Do the BNP not realise that most Christians aren’t white?

And is it not (as is pointed out above) Bishop Nazir Ali who is doing the most to protect Christian minorities/rights in Muslim majority countries?

Not such a bright gang, are they?

Suck it up Harry. Nick Griffin is going to Brussels and he will not be going alone.

The BNP are now unstoppable.

I do hope this was on the regional TV news. Worth thousands of “Hope not Hate” leaflets.

According to the polls, the BNP is going to get less than 5% of the vote anyway so there’s no problem – unless, of course, they get a lot more even with Labour-style vote tampering. Maybe the public is thinking en masse that voting for ‘protest’ parties of which the discredited Establishment parties approve such as the Greens and UKIP is hardly a protest so why not vote BNP and not tell anyone? The head of the CoE is Archbishop Rowan Williams. He has marched with CND (Soviet-financed) and has backed the introduction of sharia law in the UK. Williams is finishing the job which Blair put him in place to do and that is to hollow out the CoE until there is nothing British nor Christian left in it.

These BNP activists are almost like comedy characters. If it’s not Lee ‘Chakras’ Barnes going nuts, it’s people like Paul ‘Green Arrow’ Morris bringing the craziness to the party/Party. Even if Nick Griffin does go to Brussels he will achieve fuck all, of course. It will be embarrassing, though, to have other nations know that ‘we’ elected a weirdo like him, or that a Party that counts Barnes and Morris among its activists has actually managed to attract voters.

I think that Nick Griffin would perform very well in Brussels/Strasbourg but the central point made by Edmund Standing is correct: NG will accomplish little or nothing because that is exactly what the EU ‘parliament’ is designed to ensure. No matter how powerful the anti-establishment presence (I’m thinking of Jean-Marie Le Pen’s strongly delivered speech against Sarkozy in Brussels), it is a talking shop which will subvert and assimilate those who would go there to destroy it. The temptatations for self-enrichment will be enormous, even for real nationalists.

Nazir Ali has, for some considerable time, been a great influence on me. I can not help but admire the man. So I take a dim view of anyone who treats him with any degree of disrespect.

His resignation, as Bishop, sadly confirms my feeling that the Church of England is a lost cause.

Why did he have to do that?

Edmund Standing
  2 June 2009, 7:31 pm

There are plenty of allegations about self-enrichment in relation to Griffin. His former comrades in the ITP recommend that he should ‘be kept wholly out of anything connected with money’. And there’s more from other ‘real nationalists’:

in the summer of 2000, Nick Griffin expelled Treasurer Mike Newland for protesting at the plainly unacceptable blurring of the boundaries between the chairman’s private business concerns as a second hand (Japanese) car dealer on the one hand, and party finances on the other, not to mention the making of wholly illegal payments to Tony Lecomber (whose criminal record is so obvious a liability to the party that one is driven to speculate why Nick Griffin does not cut this albatross from around his neck… but I digress). Deputy Chairman Sharron Edwards was then expelled for asking questions about the accounts that Nick Griffin could not answer.

the damage he [Griffin] has done to our cause is due to his being a career politician who is solely out for his own gain. Everything that Nick does is geared towards promoting himself and lining his pockets… History is repeating itself when one of the first things Griffin does after taking charge of the BNP is to send himself a large portion of the party’s funds to extend his own house.

This is from ‘The Griffin File‘, a booklet produced by people Griffin formerly counted as ‘white nationalist’ allies.

Old Sailor: “Its no wonder that the BNP are known as the British Nonces Party.”

The only time I’ve seen them referred to by such a term is on this blog by you, and you alone. You seem to have an unhealthy obsession with ‘nonces’; is it something to do with being an old sailor, or what?

Allan@Aberdeen

Interesting link, Edmund, proving beyond all doubt that Nick Griffin is not the man to bring the BNP to the brink of political breakthrough – hence all the newspaper articles, warnings from the Establishment etc. Yes, a total failure indeed!

“A spokesman for anti-fascist campaigners Searchlight said: What kind of person would subject churchgoers attending a peaceful Sunday service this diatribe of prejudice and hate”.
Perhaps the kind of person who demonstrated outside Westminster Cathedral against Tony Blair http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/uk/blair+faith+speech+hit+by+protests/1935647.

For the avoidance of doubt, I wish failure on BNP on Thursday. But I am underwhelmed by some of the arguments against them. Aside from the above Manchester Anglican event, for instance that the BNP will milk EU parliament expenses to boost party finances. Well tough-titty, why can’t organized left do likewise, or could it be that BNP are politically smarter?

You want to know about real perverts then check them out below and they are not BNP.

Come on. You’re way behind. Labour gave taxpayer dosh to the Trades Unions as ‘modernisation grants’. The unions then donated to Labour. The government advertises most of its jobs in the Guardian.

When it comes to diverting tax money in their direction the right are total amateurs.

Whether certain commenters are banned or not, certain commenters certainly should be…

I wonder why yer actual fascists have started bothering to post here recently? I guess it’s nice that now we’ve hit 2009 the knuckle-draggers in the BNP have worked out how to use the internet and a keypad. A testament to this fine government’s investments in education, education, education, if ever I saw one. Maybe it’ll be touch-typing next? Who knows? With Labour, the sky’s the limit.

Maybe you’ll work out how to use commas one day. It would at least make your nonsense easier to read.

Also the ‘Internet’ is a proper noun and should therefore be written with a capital ‘I’.

sackcloth and ashes: “BNP-types will be gutted once they work out Jesus’ ethnicity.”

What makes you assume that? He didn’t come to live in Britain, sponge off the state, increase violent crime, or take jobs from British workers. He stayed in his own land; and that’s fine by ‘BNP-types’.

‘BNP-types’ aren’t anti-foreigner, they’re anti-foreigners coming to live here in massive numbers. Got it?
