A Guardian Cartoon I ‘Get’

Just for once …

It’s Martin Rowson (who is generally displaying of far more facile anti-Americanism and self-pitying leftist idiocy in much of his work than is Bell), and who, moreover, Ken Livingstone (for all that I admire him, not necessary unrelated to the above) appointed as “Cartoonist Laureate” of London…
Still, to those of you who seem to think it is reasonable or credible to try and pretend that a liberal paper like the Guardian is some latter day version of “Der Sturmer”, don’t let it stop you….

oh that bit in brackets doesn’t make sense. I don’t admire Livingstone for leftist and anti-American idiocy: but I do think it would be a factor as to why he gave such a (also ridiculous) title to Rowson

Ahmadinejad is clearly a Zionist stooge-keeping a hardliner in power gives Israel the excuse not to negotiate or give ground and keep expanding settlements (I think the argument goes).
I wonder if Griffin believes in the coming of the Mahdi…

Rowson’s visual iconography is as repulsive as ever– look at the nose he’s drawn on Ahmadinejad. Having Griffin’s eyes covered with eggs tells you more about Rowson’s not so inner sadist than it does about the nature of the BNP and the very wonderful egg throwing protest. Some of Rowson’s most repulsive cartoons have been his anti-Israel ones (Israeli mailed fist covered in metal star of David studs smashing poor helpless Lebanese while harmless little Hezbollah gnat buzzed around) and his endless anti-OFSTED ones for the TES (OFSTED inspectors as faceless male torturers etc etc).

BNP gangs beating up poor, defenceless muslims: where is this happening? On the other hand ……

I think the cartoon is crass, unfunny and unintelligent. Ahmadinejad is a deranged anti-Semitic Holocaust-denying lunatic who has just stolen an election, and has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. Nick Griffin, however distasteful one thinks of his views on certain matters, participated in an election as leader of a legitimate political party and won his votes without election rigging.
I think a cartoon showing Respect’s George Galloway hugging the Iranian presidential-thief, with the caption involving the word “indefatigable”, would have some potential.

Im not sure that you are well advised to adopt the Alant Hart methodology of telling all zionists what they think and are going to say. It makes you look a bit of a knob.
For the record I dont care for the Guardian. Its not der Sturmer; its a paper that thinks its ‘liberal’ but isn’t really anymore. In an attempt to be ‘radical’ and ‘free thinking’ it has found itself siding with unpleasant fascists and anti-semities. That doesn’t make it a fascist paper. Just a stupid one.
Notwithstanding the above, a better cartoon would indeed have shown some of the unpleasant useful idiots of todays ‘left’ embracing the Iranian president. The inclusion of Griffin is just embarassing – kinda like The Guardian saying – its okay for us to criticise/mock Ahmadinejad because we are also mocking Griffin. Don’t panic dear reader. We still hate the yanks and zionists as much as you!

I would be interested in hearing how an antisemitic rag like the Guardian can be considered ‘liberal’.
Plus what Judy, Allan and Cristo said.
This repulsive cartoon is fitting for a repulsive and racist newspaper.

I think that is exactly right.

Here’s a suggestion for another Odd couple cartoon: According to Nick Cohen, The Holocaust Museum white supremacist and Gilad Atzmon:
If he had been from the British National party, the festival would have had nothing to do with him, but as he was a fellow traveller of the Socialist Workers party, the literary ladies in their floral dresses and the bookish gentlemen in their ill-fitting jackets welcomed him to the quadrangles of Oxford.

That’s quite a disturbing picture. On another note, yesterday’s Times profile of Griffin carried a great illustration, It somehow managed to be just subtle enough and brutal enough at the same time.

Crass and disingenuous David.
Griffin is a racist. He also advocates far-left economic and social politics.
However, he no longer denies the Holocaust, as he makes abundantly clear in interviews time after time. And where does he advocate beating up Muslims?
There’s plenty of truth attack him for, but I for one won’t be drawn into gloating over facile and inaccurate ad hominem attacks like this.
It actually diminishes legitimate criticism. And it legitimizes his claim of victim hood.
Pathetic.

If you notice, since HP took a strong line against the BNP, every now and again one of their apologists will pop up in the comments boxes, trying to excuse that nasty little neo-fascist, Griffin.
| 15 June 2009, 4:00 pm |
At least nobody is trying to excuse Ahmadenijad – or Galloway.

Harry’s place supporting anti democratic far left protesters violently attacking a democratically elected British party.
Next they claim that the BNP are carrying out violent attacks on the Muslim population of the UK, this is slander.
Lastly you are suggesting that the BNP are allied to the Iranian totalitarian regime.
Why do you continue to publish lies and slanderous material?

“As might be predicted, he went to meetings of the American Friends of the British National party,”
The British National Party DID NOT set up the American Friends of the British National Party, nor can the BNP prevent American psychopaths from attending political events in the USA.
The AFBNP was disbanded in 2001 after Mark Cotterill was deported out of the USA, he was kicked out of the BNP and the BNP have gone on record denouncing Cotterill. Cotterill has gone on to create the England First Party.
This VonBrunn farce is a smear campaign to discredit the BNP based on flimsy evidence, hearsay and lies.

I think that most reasonable people would agree that George Galloway has more in common with Ahmadinejad than has Nick Griffin and the reasons why have been made clear by contributors above. Is this typically skewed leftist ‘thinking’ or is it uncharacteristic to be so wide-of-the-mark?
| 16 June 2009, 2:14 pm |
Griffin is a racist. He also advocates far-left economic and social politics.
Fucking hell. Is he some kind of entryist? Someone should tell the BNP immediately. If he is advocating far-left economic and social politics he is in breach of every single one of the BNP’s manifesto commitments and should surely be expelled.

Who’s the artist? Not Steve Bell, I warrant.
