PressTV – 24/7 News
Have you seen the new advertisement for Press TV, the Islamic Republic’s propaganda station that broadcasts neo Nazis, Holocaust deniers, and other nutters.
You’ll see it all over the back of London buses.
The slogan reads:
“Press TV. Giving a voice to the voiceless. 24/7. News. Truth. The World is changing. People are changing. Opinions are changing. The News is changing. Why do you still watch the same tired news channel? GET THE FULL STORY AT PRESS TV.”
Here’s another one, featuring George Galloway, the MP for Ahmedinejad South.
So, let’s see what Press TV has to say about the big story of the day – the Iranian Presidential Elections.
UPDATE
And now, the sport news.

The World is changing. People are changing. Opinions are changing. The News is changing.
And Iran is changing (maybe). Will the new government (if there is one) keep Press TV going? Or will it be thrown out along with the rest of the stinking garbage?

alan, who’re these people who think they’ve a monopoly on the meanings and applications of the word “truth”, so much so that they’re repelled by its use by others?

24/7 isn’t a subliminal threat that there’ll be follow up to 7/7 if you don’t subscribe?

The BBC is saying that there are so many protesters in the streets of Tehran that the crowd stretches for an incredible FIVE miles.
But I remain skeptical.

It doesn’t follow that someone who is repelled by the use of the word ‘Truth’ to describe the output of a news organisation necessarily believes that they monopolise its meanings and applications.
They might, for example be aware of the old Soviet Union’s use of ‘Pravda’ as the name of its state run newspaper. Or, they might be religious believers, who think such a term has a very restricted sense.
I also doubt that many journalists would have the confidence to describe their ‘first draft of history’ as truth.

This advertisement is simply incredible given what’s going on in Iran. I mean, it really sounds as if they were mocking themselves…

Skeptical of what, John? We could be watching history being made in so far as Ahmedinejad’s future is concerned and at least a bit of crow-eating on the part of the mullahs.
I can’t recall where I read it this morning, but there’s analysis out there to the effect that Ahmedinejad actually only captured 14% of the votes, running a poor 4th place.
That would certainly go a long way towards explaining the massive demonstrations against the proclaimed victory despite the threats, the absence of celebrating Ahmedinejad supporters and Khameini’s rapid 180 on what he initially described as a divinely ordained victory for the approved approved candidate for presidency.

In this morning’s Telegraph, linked by Alcuin posting a comment on another thread at Harrys Place. The figures (in millions of votes) were attributed to a leak at the Interior Ministry. I don’t know whether there has been any further confirmation or denial.

Ooh -you lot in London are behind the times -these posters have been up in Manchester for months now. At least one starts the commute laughing!

They’ve started to cover the situation in this rather sinister article, http://www.presstv.ir/detail/98192.htm?sectionid=351020101
I like the way the guardian council is innocuously referred to as the “election supervising body”.

PS I think you need to copy and paste links into another window for them to work. Maybe they don’t take referals from ZioNaziImperialistCons.

did anyone see the picture of an iranian protester helping the injured riot policeman?
it definitely solidifies my support for their cause.

I remember the Iranian revolution back in 1979 when I was a student, and one vivid report on TV was a good-looking female student in Teheran saying excitedly how she was looking forward to the freedom that the revolution would bring – I think she was in the communist party and some of us know what happened to communists. Anyway, just like that excited young woman, I reckon that many Iranians will either end up dead or bitterly disappointed with whatever the outcome will be of these events. The regime does not require the world’s approval, unlike the Shah who refused to open fire on his countrymen. The regime is driven by religious zealotry and the possible replacement for Ahmadinejad, Mr Mousavi, is of the regime. If the regime feels endangered, then all hell will break loose because they are on a mission from allah.

Why the f*%$£ is London Transport advertising Channel Jihad?!?! Like Al Beeb and the rest of the British media isn’t enough. And who are the ‘voiceless’ they’re talking about? Moderate Zionistic Jews are the only people whose views you don’t really see in the media.
And Galloway’s voice is enough for every Arab extremist in the world.

Press TV: Giving a voice to the brainless.
Sorry, that is feeble, isn’t it. But I couldn’t resist.
Anyway, I guess that guy running the anchor’s prompt screen should be fired.

“Cable doesn’t carry PressTV in NYC. Not likely many places in the States have it.
As it happens, Nico at HuffPost, who is liveblogging the aftermath of the Iran selection has provided a way to pick it up wherever you might be:
“10:23 PM ET — How to watch Iran state media. Reader a.m. offers some helpful directions (this also works in Quicktime if you have Flip4Mac):
1. go into windows media player
2. select file, then open URL
3. type this in mms://wms.edgecastcdn.net/200216/ipresstv
that allows you to watch Press TV, teh english language state media. They do a news update every 30 minutes and they’ve been reporting on the demonstration. but they haven’t been covering it roudn the clock.”

I saw one of these yesterday. They do make me laugh. But at the same time, it’s difficult to have any respect for UK journalists or politicians who appear on it, isn’t it? Regardless of where you stand in terms of Middle East issues, no self-respecting journalist should go anywhere near such a heavily censored, propagandist “news” outlet. That’s what I think, anyway.

Who is the honey doing the sports on Press TV? She’s hot!

Press TV has some real nutters on it. David Aaronovitch for instance. He was putting his foot in his mouth along with some guy from Chatham House, Bob Ayres, and he just did not have any facts for his theory that we do not need an independent investigation on 7/7 as we can trust the governments. He was asked how he, a Jew, could be so stupid, and his only reply was that he was not really Jewish. This story, along with a review of his silly book Voodoo
is up at http://www.hempforvictory.blogspot.com
Yes, they put some real idiots on Press TV. But maybe they liked Aarnonovitch becase he tries (in vain) to defend the nazis from the charge of doing the Reischstage Fire themselves. Ahmadinejad would love his revisionist history. Play on Press TV can have him and keep him.

this web site title says:

after reading above comments i think press tv is doing great job.

A more conscious news organisation would be wary of describing what they do as ‘Truth’, given the historical echoes.
I remember from many years ago an advert for ‘The Guardian’ screened in cinemas, where the words ‘The Guardian’ morphed into ‘The Truth’.
It didn’t last long and perhaps the publishers realised how repellent it was for some people.
