They're just sticking up for their class interest. In the days of the Shah, I remember we had crowds of Iranians over here, and many of them were very pro-Shah, because their families had been enriched or become even richer under him. If you belong to the 'elite' of a society, you tend to want to perpetuate it.

Lbnaz's deleted comment was interesting. If this was not the right place for it, perhaps it could be posted separately, for further discussion. The BBC's coverage of the Goldstone report has already filled me with despair. What can be done? As for Press TV, it sounds a bit like Sotheby, staffed by charming, gilded young things, but with a sinister agenda. Extraordinary.

I'm assuming it was Lucy who deleted my post because she thought it too deflecting from the topic of the post and perhaps a deliberate whatabouttery ploy. First let me say that I concur with her and Richard 100% that Khosro Ekhtari's article is revealing and important. The BBC isn't in the same league as Press TV and Iran's authoritarian regime is not comparable to Britain's democracy. I apologize that my now deleted post left open the possibility that I hold Britain and the BBC in anywhere near the same regard as the contemptible IRI and Press TV.

Nevertheless, London barrister Jonathan Turner's letter describing the stacked, non-transparent, unaccountable and even underhanded way the complaint process at the publicly funded broadcaster is managed also merits attention. This thread just wasn't the appropriate one to raise the concern.

Just because the BBC may not be wonderful in dealing with complaints, it doesn't make Khosro Ekhtiari's article any less revealing or important. I'd take the BBC over Press TV any day.

I don't recall seeing Press TV's version of Points of View, for one thing. It might be rather interesting.
