As an American I can never get used to how Brits call people from the middle east or India “Asians”… Americans don’t.

We tend to call people from China/Japan/Korea/Thailand/Malaysia “Asians” on the basis of looks, and no one else.

That said, I have read that a couple antisemitic books recently became popular in Korea, so “Asian” by our standards is possible too.

One of the leading lights of “anti-Zionism” in Canada is named Jagi Singh, who, among other brave acts, lead a very violent protest against a planned appearance by Benny Netanyahu at Montreal’s Concordia University a few yeas ago. Singh also accuses Canadian Jews of committing “cultural appropriation” for enjoying fallafels. (I guess he believes Jews were extinct from Asia Minor since the Roman conquests.)

Post colonial India was not overly kind to Jews or Israel, so there are probably some Hindus who hold similar anti-Jewish sympathies.

Without any knowledge of the political ideals of the assailants, I’m going to go out on a limb and speculate that these boys wouldn’t have committed such an act of violence against an Ethiopian Jew.

As a white Englishman I am ‘offended’ at the implication that I need any help at all from any ethno-religious-whatever you want to call it – group to ‘unite’ with anyone.

The terminology used is crass. The link between two of the victims murdered seems to define them primarily as Jews. Am I to understand that Jews dont come in my own skin colour?

Make your mind up Lucy – do we really have to equate skin colour with religious or racial preferences.
