If so – (d): I was glancing out the window at the marvelous kiosk built into the platform on the right – do they still sell cuppas for 35p consisting of an inch of incredibly stewed tea, topped up with boiling water and uht milk in a cup with one of those plastic covers that succeeds only in squirting boiling tea down the side of the cup? Used to do a fine line in cherry Bakewells and tepid sausage rolls as well, both for about 50p. And that was only a few years back.

Nah, they’ve all gone, as indeed has the Silverlink. Not that that latter one is missed.
Not a cafe ritazza, but the latest post-Travellers Fare branded overpriced expresso shop – Pumpkin I think it’s called.
Meanwhile Barking itself is increasingly unrecognizable, as the town centre has been taken over by brightly coloured and frankly ugly and tacky, and soon to look extremely dated, contemporary architecture.
Even though they already made that mistake there at least once before. (At least The Lintons has been demolished now. But the fine old Town Square with its vista of Brian Eno’s fave buildilng in the world, the town hall, is now reduced in size and surrounded by yet more exemplars of tacky, public-funded, horrid, naff, gimmicky contemporary dross architecture).
And, no the quiz was the one at the Hope, on Gascoigne Road (I censored the questions to protect the modesty of more fragile readers, so I understand why you might have thought it elsewhere)
